Feb 5 (The Sports Xchange) - The Philadelphia 76ers will honor the late NBA player Darryl Dawkins with a special tribute night on Saturday when the Sixers host the Brooklyn Nets. The 6-foot-11 Dawkins, known as "Chocolate Thunder" because of his powerful dunks, died of a heart attack on Aug. 27 at age 58. "Darryl Dawkins Tribute Night" will be highlighted by a special halftime ceremony featuring live interviews with former Sixers teammates Bobby Jones and World B. Free. Dawkins' legend swelled in 1979 when he twice shattered backboards with his rim-rattling dunks. He appeared in 726 games (232 starts) for Philadelphia, New Jersey, Detroit and Utah and averaged 12 points and six rebounds per game. His 57.2 career field-goal percentage ranks eighth in NBA history. - - - The Phoenix Suns signed NBA Developmental League all-star guard Orlando Johnson to a 10-day contract on Friday. Johnson has spent this season with Austin in the D-League and averaged 15.2 points in 28 games. He was named to the all-star team on Jan. 29. The two-year NBA veteran played for the Indiana Pacers in 2012-13 and the Sacramento Kings in 2013-14. In 96 NBA games, Johnson has averaged 3.2 points and 1.7 rebounds, with a career high of 15 points for the Pacers in a 2013 game against the Atlanta Hawks. Johnson also spent last season with Austin, averaging 17.4 points in 43 games, and previously played professionally in Spain and the Philippines. - - - A Jan. 23 game between the Utah Jazz and Washington Wizards that was postponed because of heavy snow last month has been rescheduled for Feb. 18.
