July 1 (The Sports Xchange) - The San Antonio Spurs hit the ground running on the first day of free agency, agreeing to contracts with forwards Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green and trading center Tiago Splitter to clear room for a bid to sign free-agent LaMarcus Aldridge. Leonard, who averaged 17.8 points and 6.4 rebounds, agreed to a five-year, $90 million maximum deal and Green agreed to stay on a four-year, $45 million contract. Trading Splitter to Atlanta will free $8.5 million in cap space as the Spurs pursue forward Aldridge. --- Point guard Goran Dragic agreed to a five-year, $90 million deal with the Miami Heat, who can shift their attention to keeping backcourt mate Dwyane Wade. Wade did not exercise his player option for next season and became a free agent. Dragic, who averaged 16.6 points and 5.3 points in 26 games for Miami, can sign his contract July 9, the first day free agents are allowed to sign new deals. --- The Phoenix Suns reached contract agreements with veteran center Tyson Chandler and guard Brandon Knight. According to reports, the Suns lured Chandler away from the Dallas Mavericks with a four-year, $42 million deal and kept Knight in Phoenix with a five-year, $70 million contract. --- The Milwaukee Bucks and guard Khris Middleton, a restricted free agent, reportedly have agreed to a five-year deal worth $70 million. Middleton, a former second-round pick of the Detroit Pistons, has emerged as a major part of the Bucks' lineup since the team acquired him from Detroit in July 2013, averaging 13.4 points and 4.4 rebounds last season. --- The Atlanta Hawks and forward Paul Millsap have agreed to terms of a three-year deal worth $59 million, according to several reports Wednesday. Millsap, 30, averaged 16.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists last season. Atlanta lost forward DeMarre Carroll to the Toronto Raptors on a four-year, $60 million deal but also acquired center Tiago Splitter, giving them a frontcourt rotation of Millsap, Al Horford and Splitter. --- Forward Paul Pierce reportedly agreed to a three-year, $10 million deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, reuniting him with coach Doc Rivers, who helped him win an NBA title with Boston. The 37-year-old veteran turned down a deal with the Washington Wizards that would have paid him $6.6 million in the coming season, with a team option for a second year, according to Yahoo Sports. --- The Portland Trail Blazers and All-Star guard Damian Lillard are nearing a maximum five-year contract extension. The extension is expected to top $120 million in value, according to ESPN.com. Lillard, 24, averaged a career-high 21 points per game last season and averaged 6.2 assists and 4.6 rebounds while playing in all 82 games. --- Restricted free agent Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors, unable to complete a long-term deal, reportedly halted contract negotiations.
