Lakers-inspired workplace comedy from 'The Office' alum Mindy Kaling coming to Netflix

There are already two Los Angeles Lakers-based projects coming to TV in 2022, and on Friday we found out there's going to be a third.

According to Deadline, Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of a workplace comedy inspired by the Lakers front office. Team owner and president Jeanie Buss and Lakers executive director Linda Rambis are executive producers alongside Mindy Kaling, who both wrote for and starred in the legendary workplace comedy "The Office," and Elaine Ko, former writer and executive producer for "Modern Family."

The mixture of family, friendship and business in the Lakers' front office is fertile ground for a workplace sitcom, and that's exactly the ground they'll be tilling. Via Deadline:

Written by Ko, the untitled series is inspired by the personal and professional dynamic between the family owners and front office team that together run one of the most iconic franchises in all of sports: the Los Angeles Lakers. The workplace comedy follows fictional team governor Eliza Reed as she navigates NBA ownership and family drama with her best friend by her side.

More Lakers entertainment on the way

Two other Lakers-related projects are coming to TV in 2022. In May, Hulu ordered a nine-part documentary series chronicling the history of the Lakers, produced by Buss and director Antoine Fuqua. The series begins with the late Jerry Buss buying the team in 1979, and includes interviews with more than 35 members of the organization, including executives and players.

The other project is an untitled HBO limited drama series based on the book "Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s," by Jeff Pearlman, and has no official Lakers involvement at all. According to The Hollywood Reporter, many of the major roles have already been cast. John C. Reilly will play Jerry Buss, Adrien Brody will play coach Pat Riley, Sally Field will play Jerry's mother Jessie Buss, and Bo Burnham will play Larry Bird. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson and Michael Cooper will be played by newcomers Solomon Hughes, Quincy Isaiah and Delante Desouza, while Norm Nixon will be played by his real life son, DeVaughn Nixon.

Get ready for 2022, Lakers fans. There will be a lot of TV for you to watch.
