Gilbert Arenas' China deal falling apart

Gilbert Arenas' contract to play Guangdong of the Chinese Basketball Association is falling apart, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Arenas and Guangdong reached a verbal agreement, but have now hit an impasse over completing a signed contract. The snags may ultimately keep Arenas from joining Guangdong for the upcoming CBA season, sources said.

Guangdong and Arenas have had disagreements over a payment schedule, and the organization has started to have increasing questions over Arenas' fitness to make an impact in the league.

Guangdong is actively searching for a free-agent NBA guard to sign as a replacement for Arenas, sources said. Guangdong's roster includes former NBA lottery pick, Yi Jianlian.

Arenas has considered getting on a flight to China on Tuesday or Wednesday, but is currently in Los Angeles.

After a career that has deteriorated in the NBA, Arenas played sparingly in 23 games for the Memphis Grizzlies a season ago. No NBA teams showed interest in signing him this summer.

Arenas, 30, had been a three-time NBA All-Star from 2005-07 with the Washington Wizards, but knee surgery and a locker-room gun incident started a decline that led him to Orlando, Memphis and finally out of the NBA.
