Blazers signing Dorell Wright to two-year deal

The Portland Trail Blazers reached agreement on a two-year, $6 million deal with free-agent forward Dorell Wright, his agent, Greg Lawrence, told Yahoo! Sports.

The Oklahoma City Thunder had made Wright a priority in free agency, but ultimately Blazers general manager Neil Olshey secured Wright in the late stages of the courtship.

For the Blazers, Wright brings strong perimeter shooting and size to the wing. Wright, who is 6-foot-9, averaged 9.2 points for Philadelphia in the 2012-13 season. He shot 37 percent on 3-pointers.

Wright gives a boost to a Blazers bench that needs upgrading this summer. He could conceivably compete for a starting job, too.

The Blazers have deepened their roster with deals for Robin Lopez and Thomas Robinson, as well as the drafting of C.J. McCollum and Allen Crabbe.

Wright, 27, completed his eighth season in the NBA after being the 19th overall pick out of South Kent Prep in 2004 to the Miami Heat. After six seasons with the Heat, Wright had his best NBA season in his first of two years with Golden State in 2010-11, when he averaged 16 points a game.
