Navy’s slotbacks will wear a uniform patch for teammate Will McKamey during Saturday’s game vs. Army.

McKamey died in the spring of 2014, three days after he collapsed during a practice. The Tennessee native would have been a senior and playing in his final Army-Navy game on Saturday.

The patch will be worn by Toneo Gulley, Calvin Cass, Dishan Romine and Kendrick Mouton. Gulley, one of the team’s senior captains, suffered a season-ending injury vs. Temple in the AAC Championship Game.

McKamey, Tennessee’s Mr. Football in 2012, collapsed on the football field in high school during a game as a senior. After avoiding contact for months, he was cleared to play again after doctors couldn’t find the cause of the collapse.

McKamey never regained consciousness after he collapsed at Navy. His family released a statement following the practice incident saying Navy did nothing wrong and they felt “there is more going on in his brain than we could have ever detected.” According to the family’s statement, McKamey had undergone “4-6” CAT scans and MRIs after he collapsed in high school.

The Midshipmen have won 14-straight vs. Army.
