For the first time in 15 years, fans of the former Montreal Expos have a few things to get excited about.

As the Tampa Bay Rays explore the potential to share the team with the city of Montreal, the Nationals are planning a tribute to the Expos, who moved to Washington following the 2004 season.

The Nationals are planning to wear throwback Expos uniforms for the first time in team history when they host the Kansas City Royals on July 6. And not just any old Expos uniform — the iconic powder blues, from the club’s inaugural season in 1969.

As Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post reports, the Nationals’ tribute to the Expos goes much further than just the throwback uniforms.

The Nationals are apparently planning to replicate the Montreal baseball experience as best they can, right down to the unique items on the menu. Nationals Park will reportedly be selling Montreal smoked beef brisket sandwiches and poutine, two culinary staples that helped create a unique Expos game-day experience.

The scoreboard at Nationals Park will also pay tribute to the Expos as the classic Montreal “M” will replace the Nationals “W” for the evening. And did I mention that Former Expos great Vladimir Guerrero will be in attendance?

It’s not quite baseball in Montreal, but the wheels that could bring an MLB team back to the city appear to be in motion. Meanwhile, Expos fans can enjoy a bit of nostalgia when the Nationals take on the Royals on July 6.
