Nationals fire employee who allegedly threw hot coffee in woman's face

A Washington Nationals employee has been fired after he allegedly threw two cups of hot coffee in the face of a female convenience-store employee in the Dominican Republic, ESPN’s Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel reported Saturday.

Video posted to Twitter and shared by ESPN shows the Nationals’ employee, identified as Jazhiel Morel, exchanging words with the convenience-store employee. Before leaving, he’s seen picking up two cups and throwing the contents in the clerk’s face.

After reviewing the footage, Nationals' president of baseball operations Mike Rizzo says the team quickly terminated Morel.

Rizzo released this statement to ESPN:

"The Washington Nationals learned of this horrific incident earlier today and immediately terminated the employee. We do not tolerate this type of behavior in our organization."

According to ESPN’s report, Morel has agreed to turn himself into police on Monday morning.

Morel most recently served as the administrator of the Nationals' academy in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic. He has been employed by the Nationals since 2017, when he started as a video intern at the academy.
