Nathaniel Chalobah set for talks on Chelsea future, contract and Tiemoue Bakayoko transfer

Nathaniel Chalobah is set to meet Chelsea for talks next week over his future at Stamford Bridge.

Chalobah, who was part of the England Under-21 side that lost to Germany on penalties in the European Championships semi-finals, has just one year left on his contract.

Standard Sport revealed in March that the club are planning to negotiate a new five-year deal this summer.

That is still the case, however the 22-year-old is believed to be looking for some reassurances over his role at the club before signing anything.

Despite being highly rated by coach Antonio Conte, Chalobah made just five starts, 15 appearances in total, last term.

The club are now on the verge of buying 22-year-old midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco for £35.1million to play alongside N'Golo Kante, although competition for places will be eased should Nemanja Matic join Manchester United for £40m.

Chalobah impressed for England at the European Championships and wants to be playing more regularly than he did in Conte's first season in charge.

Conte is looking for a bigger squad to help cope with the club being in the Champions League as well as the three domestic competitions next season.

That should give Chalobah more opportunities to play, but he could decide to ask for a loan move elsewhere instead.

Chalobah, who has always set his sights on progressing from Chelsea's Academy into the first team, is due to have a scan tomorrow on the groin injury which forced him to come off after 66 minutes against Germany.

It was his last appearance for England's youth sides, having won a total of 97 caps over five age groups in nine years.
