N.L. junior hockey player injured in Signal Hill fall

A Marystown-born junior hockey player received multiple injuries when he fell from a cliff on Signal Hill last weekend.

19-year-old Andrew Picco was the man who fell from Signal Hill early Sunday morning. The teenager accidentally fell over a concrete barrier, and plunged over 100 metres down the cliff.

Firefighters told CBC News that Picco was "lucky to be alive" following the accident.

The teenager was with a group celebrating their 19-year-old friend Nathan Noel's draft to the NHL earlier that day. Noel will be playing for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Picco plays defense for the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Last season, he scored 20 points in 54 games with the team.

The young man has shared several messages on social media since the incident, thanking his friends for their support.

"On Saturday my whole life changed drastically," he wrote in a post. "I just want everyone to realize that life is not to be taken for granted."

Picco appears to have received multiple injuries in the fall. Firefighters said it took several hours to locate the man on Sunday morning at Signal Hill after the accident.
