Murrells Inlet’s beloved MarshWalk cat disappeared. Where is he, visitors ask

A beloved community cat in the Murrells Inlet area has found a forever home.

Mullet, who’s over 10 years of age, could often be seen lounging around on chairs and tables, greeting customers and staff.

But this year the male gray and white cat hadn’t been seen and customers took to social media asking where he was.

It turns out Mullet was adopted by customers just before Hurricane Ian, according to the owner of Creek Ratz, a bar on the MarshWalk.

It’s not clear who the current owners are.

Mullet was known to the area as the Creek Ratz bar cat, and was usually hanging out with customers and staff outside. He was named after the “Mullet Hut,” which is the outside bar and seating area in between Creek Ratz and J Peters Grill and Bar.

Beth Readler, a Surfside Beach resident, first met Mullet when she moved permanently to the area around seven years ago.

She said she visited Mullet on every trip to the inlet.

“I always associated him with the fun, laid-back vibe of the MarshWalk,” Readler said.

She added that he could also be moody, but he usually let people pet him.

“Which is why I liked him even more,” she said.

Readler said she was worried about Mullet because he was getting older, and took to social media to find out what happened to him.

One person replied in the thread and said that Mullet had found a new home.

“I’m just so thrilled that now he can spend his days in a nice warm house with other cats and you know, that he’s happy,” she said.
