Yahoo Sports MRI confirms season-ending ACL tear for 49ers pass rusher Nick Bosa
An MRI confirmed that defensive end Nick Bosa suffered a torn ACL on Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers announced Monday.
His 2020 season is over.
Bosa suffered the injury in the first quarter of San Francisco’s 31-13 win over the New York Jets. His left knee buckled in a pile of players, and he had to be taken off the field on a cart.
Monday’s news was expected following Sunday’s preliminary diagnosis. It still remains a devastating blow to the defending NFC champions as they lose the centerpiece of their vaunted defensive line.
Bosa made the Pro Bowl and was named Defensive Rookie of the Year last season as he tallied nine sacks, 25 quarterback hits and 16 tackles for loss. Many expected him to take another step this season and contend for Defensive Player of the Year.
Other 49ers injury updates
Bosa was one of several 49ers to suffer significant injury Sunday, prompting head coach Kyle Shanahan to criticize the “sticky” turf at MetLife stadium.
Defensive end Solomon Thomas suffered a knee injury that was also confirmed Monday as a season-ending ACL tear. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a high-ankle sprain, and his status for Week 3 against the New York Giants is unclear.
Starting running back Raheem Mostert suffered a knee injury confirmed as an MCL sprain on Monday and has reportedly been ruled out for Week 3. His backup Tevin Coleman will miss “multiple weeks” with a knee injury he suffered in the second half, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
