About Highland Park, TX

Highland Park is located in central Dallas County, around four miles north of downtown Dallas and 37 miles east of downtown Fort Worth. It’s nestled between the Dallas North Tollway and U.S. Route 75. Together with neighboring city University Park, the area is known as Park Cities.

After an Indian battle, a Texas Ranger scouting expedition camped in a spot along “the creek with all the turtles,” in the area that is now known as Highland Park. The area, named Highland Park because it’s elevated 130 feet above downtown Dallas and 20% was reserved for park space. The community was incorporated in 1915 after Dallas chose not to annex it. Dallas later tried to annex Highland Park, but the town had already formed its own government and infrastructure.

It’s home to Highland Park Village, a high-end shopping mall that offers designer boutiques and fine dining. Highland Park is known for numerous public green spaces throughout the community.
