Morgan Wallen says he's been 'cleared' to sing again after vocal cord injury

Morgan Wallen is ready to take the stage again after recovering from a vocal cord injury.

The award-winning country singer told fans on social media that he's been "cleared" to perform.

"The doc cleared me to talk and sing … we back," Wallen wrote on an Instagram story with a photo of his hands outstretched while aboard a fishing boat.

USA TODAY has reached out to Wallen's reps for more details.

Wallen angered fans in April after abruptly canceling a show in Mississippi due to vocal issues. He was later placed on vocal rest for six weeks which affected 14 of his concerts during his One Night At A Time tour.

He announced on social media that he'd been diagnosed with vocal fold trauma after a weekend of concerts in Jacksonville, West Palm Beach and Tampa, Florida, where he says he reinjured his vocal cords.

"I got some bad news from my doctors at the Vanderbilt Voice Center yesterday. After taking 10 days of vocal rest, I performed three shows last weekend in Florida and by the third one I felt terrible," Wallen said in the social media clip. "So I went in and got scoped yesterday, and they told me that I reinjured my vocal cords and that I have vocal fold trauma. Their advice is that I go on vocal rest for six weeks, so that's what I'm going to do."

Because of his ailment, Wallen didn't appear at the Academy of Country Music Awards, where he was nominated for four awards and walked away winning male artist of the year. He has also rescheduled his festival appearances to 2024.

Wallen's shows up until June 17 were expected to be affected by the vocal rest period. The musician hasn't announced any details of new upcoming shows but according to his website, his tour is expected to resume June 22 in Chicago's Wrigley Field.

Controversies are nothing new for Wallen, who is currently the top-drawing country music star in the world.

He was caught on camera in 2021 outside a home in Nashville, Tennessee, yelling profanities and a racial slur. He apologized at the time but was suspended indefinitely from his label and his music was pulled by radio stations and streaming services.
