MMA fighter Cedric 'Spider-Man' Marks, accused of multiple murders, captured after jail van escape

MMA fighter Cedric “Spider-Man” Marks was captured on Sunday after he escaped from a jail transport van just north of Houston and led police on a nine-hour manhunt.

Marks, who was arrested in Michigan last month on a burglary charge with the intent to commit another felony, was being extradited back to Bell County, Texas, in a prisoner transport van, according to ABC News.

Marks fled the transport van on foot in his orange jumpsuit and restraints after they had stopped at a McDonald’s in Conroe, Texas, on Sunday around 7 a.m. The van, which had nine other inmates inside, was accompanied by two guards. The 44-year-old was recaptured nine hours later after he was spotted hiding between homes in the area and a homeowner called the police, according to KHOU.

Marks has a career 31-27-1 record, and most recently fought in March 2018. He has a 4-10 record in the last decade, and has lost six straight bouts.

Multiple murder, domestic violence accusations

According to the report, Marks has warrants for his arrest in Temple, Texas for the deaths of Jenna Scott, his ex-girlfriend, and Michael Swearingin. The pair were reported missing on Jan. 9, and their bodies were found in Oklahoma a week later. The burglary charge Marks was arrested on was related to Scott.

Scott, who began dating Marks in 2015 after meeting him on Tinder, had also filed a protective order against him in July. She described him as a “master manipulator,” per the report.

“I believe he is a pathological liar,” Scott said, according to the court document obtained by ABC News. “I also believe he is a psychopath. He told [me] about killing pets when he was a child in Oklahoma and that he was in and out of psychiatric facilities during his childhood. He told me he had killed someone in Oklahoma but that he was able to cover it up and that he could do the same here in Texas.”

According to the report, Marks broke into Scott’s home and threatened her in August. He allegedly would threaten her every time she tried to break up with him, and even choked her until she lost consciousness twice. Two members of his family were also listed on the protective order.
