MLB roundup: Phils' Brad Miller hits 3 homers vs. Cubs

Brad Miller hit three homers and drove in five runs to power the Philadelphia Phillies to an 8-0 win over the host Chicago Cubs on Thursday night.

Miller belted a solo shot and a pair of two-run blasts for the first three-homer game of his career. Didi Gregorius added a two-run homer for the Phillies, who won three of four games in the series.

The Cubs had five hits and lost for the 12th time in their past 13 games. They were shut out for the seventh time this season.

Phillies right-hander Zach Eflin (4-6) tossed six scoreless innings. Cubs right-hander Adbert Alzolay (4-9) allowed four runs in five innings.

Padres 9, Nationals 8

Trent Grisham drove home Tommy Pham with a two-out, walk-off single in the ninth inning as San Diego defeated visiting Washington to split a four-game series.

Ignited by a fourth-inning grand slam from rookie relief pitcher Daniel Camarena off Max Scherzer, the Padres rallied from an 8-0 deficit. Fernando Tatis Jr. also went deep for San Diego, and Pham finished with three hits.

Trea Turner went 3-for-5 with two homers for the Nationals. Scherzer gave up seven runs in 3 2/3 innings while Padres starter Yu Darvish yielded six runs in three innings.

Indians 7, Royals 4

Franmil Reyes belted a three-run homer in the ninth inning as host Cleveland snapped a nine-game losing skid with a victory over Kansas City. The long ball was Reyes' third in as many games.

Roberto Perez launched a three-run homer in the eighth inning and Bobby Bradley had a fourth-inning solo shot for the Indians.

The Royals' Carlos Santana homered twice and Hunter Dozier also went deep.

Dodgers 6, Marlins 1

Julio Urias earned his major-league-leading 11th win of the season as Los Angeles posted a slump-breaking victory at Miami. The Marlins had won the first three games of the four-game series.

Urias (11-3) allowed one run on five hits in seven innings, striking out nine and walking two. Chris Taylor led the Dodgers' offense, going 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered for the Marlins. Sandy Alcantara yielded five runs (three earned) on seven hits in four-plus innings.

A's 2, Astros 1

Oakland scored twice in the top of the first inning, the only runs it would need to snap a three-game losing streak with a victory at Houston. The Astros had won six consecutive games.

With one out in the first, Elvis Andrus doubled to left and then scored on Matt Olson's ground-rule double. Jed Lowrie then singled in the second run of the inning.

Frankie Montas (8-7) fanned 10 while allowing one run on five hits and a walk in 6 2/3 innings. Jake Diekman pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his seventh save.

Mariners 4, Yankees 0

Rookie Logan Gilbert allowed one hit over seven scoreless innings as Seattle defeated visiting New York to avoid a three-game sweep.

Gilbert (3-2) struck out a career-high eight in his longest of 10 starts this season. He didn't allow a baserunner over his final five innings, and Paul Sewald and Kendall Graveman each pitched a hitless inning of relief to wrap up the victory.

Kyle Seager, Dylan Moore and Mitch Haniger homered for the Mariners.

Rockies 9, Diamondbacks 3

Dom Nunez had three hits, Raimel Tapia and Ryan McMahon added two apiece and Colorado beat Arizona in Phoenix.

Chi Chi Gonzalez (3-5) pitched five innings and added an RBI single for the Rockies, who picked up just their seventh road victory of the year.

Colorado's C.J. Cron left the game in the seventh inning after being hit in the head with a pitch.

Twins 5, Tigers 3

Miguel Sano hit a game-tying homer in the seventh and Minnesota added two unearned runs in the inning to rally for a victory over visiting Detroit.

Ryan Jeffers also homered and Max Kepler added two hits for Minnesota in the opener of a four-game series. The Twins improved to 10-3 in their past 13 games against the Tigers.

J.A. Happ (5-4) picked up the victory, pitching seven innings in a game for the first time since April. Happ allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out eight. Taylor Rogers pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his eighth save.

Brewers 5, Reds 3

Avisail Garcia hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the eighth inning and Milwaukee cooled off visiting Cincinnati, matching a season high with its seventh straight home victory.

Garcia had three RBIs while Keston Hiura doubled twice for the Brewers. Devin Williams (6-1) struck out two in a perfect eighth inning for the win, and Josh Hader fanned two in a 1-2-3 ninth for his 21st save.

Tucker Barnhart had two hits and an RBI for the Reds, who had won six of their first seven this month.
