Minor league team will play as Zamunda Lions for 'Coming to America' tribute night

Big League Stew

If loving zany minor-league promos is wrong, we don’t want to be right.

And with that, we need to tell you about the latest zany promo from the Fresno Grizzlies, the Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, who are doing a tribute to the Eddie Murphy classic “Coming to America” for its 30th anniversary. The film was released June 26, 1988 and on June 21, 2018, the Grizzlies will play as the Zamunda Lions. Their jerseys come complete with a lion sash and flag for the fictional nation of Zamunda.

Behold the “Coming to America”-inspired jerseys and caps:

Not only that, but they’re adding a pop-up McDowell’s stand to their stadium for that night selling Big Mick burgers. And rest assured, the buns will have no seeds.

At their press conference to announce the event Thursday, the Grizzlies even had their own King Jaffe Joffer:

No word on whether Sexual Chocolate has been booked to sing the national anthem that night.
