The Minnesota Wild may change their longtime goal song to a piece made by an iconic local musician.

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Wild have sent an email to season ticket holders asking them if they want to change it to “Let’s Go Crazy!” by Prince from Joe Satriani’s “Crowd Chant.”

For Game 6 of the first-round of last season’s Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Wild made the switch to honor Minneapolis born Prince, who had died days before the game.

The Wild also celebrated the life of Prince before the game and offered several other tributes.

That game the song blared through Xcel Energy Center during every home goal as the Wild clawed back from a 4-0 deficit to eventually lose 5-4.

Overall it seemed to fit well with the building energy and put the crowd into a heightened state of celebration. You can even hear some fans singing the lyrics in this video.

Satriani’s piece has been the team’s goal song since 2006.

Here is a copy of the email according to the Star Tribune.

After Prince passed away in April, a few fans reached out to see if the Wild would consider changing the home ice goal celebration song to “Let’s Go Crazy”, in honor of the legendary Minnesota artist. We did use it as our goal song for Game 6 against Dallas. We thought it would be a good time to ask our best fans, our Season Ticket Holders, what they thought. Should the Wild change the home ice goal celebration song at Xcel Energy Center?

NO! The current song (Joe Satriani’s “Crowd Chant”) is perfect!

YES! Honor Prince by adopting “Let’s Go Crazy!”

Yes! But let us pick the new one from a number of options.

Yes! And here is the song that I recommend:

“There is no additional polling planned beyond the surveys sent to Wild Season Ticket Holders,” said Minnesota Wild Vice President, Brand Content and Communications John Maher in a statement to Puck Daddy. “That said, we certainly also pay attention to the sentiment of people engaging on this topic on social media. We’re thrilled that folks are excited to talk about their Wild game experience in the middle of the summer!”

This is somewhat reminiscent of the Buffalo Sabres holding an online fan vote, which eventually made the DJ Kool’s classic “Let Me Clear My Throat” the team’s new goal song for 2015-16. This turned into a wildly successful decision as a departure from the hard rock that usually dominates arena goal songs.

What do you think? Should the Wild make this Prince classic their new goal song, or should they keep their current song?
