Minnesota Timberwolves guard Derrick Rose underwent surgery on his right elbow and will officially miss the remainder of the season, the team announced on Saturday.

The arthroscopic surgery, performed at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, removed bone chips from his right elbow. Rose missed four games earlier this month while dealing with soreness in his right elbow. An MRI later revealed that he had a chip fracture and loose body in the elbow.

The former league MVP averaged 18 points, 4.3 assists and 2.7 rebounds in 57 games for the Timberwolves this season — the most he’s put up since the 2016-17 season, which he spent with the New York Knicks. Rose also shot a career-high 37 percent from the 3-point line.

Rose is one of three Timberwolves who have been sidelined for the remainder of the year. Guard Jeff Teague reaggravated a left foot injury, and is wearing a walking boot for three weeks after he was given an injection to treat chronic inflammation. Forward Robert Covington — who was sent to Minnesota in December in the blockbuster trade that moved Jimmy Butler to the Philadelphia 76ershasn’t played since he injured his knee on December 31. While he was expected back this season, he reportedly suffered a setback in his recovery and needed further treatment.

The Timberwolves currently hold a 32-40 record, and have lost five straight games. They have just 10 games left in the regular season, and are officially out of playoff contention.
