Sylvia Fowles surpasses Rebekkah Brunson, becomes league's all-time leading rebounder

Sylvia Fowles has long been among the best rebounders in WNBA history.

Now, there’s no doubt where she stands.

Fowles, with less than four seconds left in the second quarter of their 90-66 loss to the Seattle Storm on Tuesday night at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, picked up her 3,357th career rebound — officially making her the WNBA’s all-time leading rebounder.

"As far as rebounding, I think it pretty much sums up who I am," Fowles said before the game, via ESPN. "Growing up, that was me. I was always that defensive player."

She finished Tuesday night with 15 points and 10 rebounds, bringing her career total to 3,360 rebounds.

Fowles has averaged nearly a double-double throughout her 13-year WNBA career, putting up 15.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. The six-time All-Star helped lead the Lynx to a pair of WNBA championships — both of which she was named the Finals MVP — and was named the league MVP in 2017.

Fowles passed former Lynx star and current assistant Rebekkah Brunson as the league’s top rebounder, too, making the moment even more special.
