Mike Nugent's extra point yips sum up the NFL's kicking fiasco this season

They can’t all be Justin Tucker.

While the Baltimore Ravens kicker continued on Sunday to hit 50-yard field goals like they’re extra points, other kickers can’t even hit extra points like they’re extra points. Yes Mike Nugent, we’re talking about you.

Nugent has been on a terrible run for the Cincinnati Bengals. He missed another extra point on Sunday, pushing a kick wide right. He’s not alone in missing extra points this season, but it continued a pretty amazing streak.

The miss on in the first half on Sunday was Nugent’s fourth missed extra point in five attempts. He missed all three extra-point attempts in his past two games, but hit one to start Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. And Nugent just had to start another streak, so he missed his second attempt after the Bengals went ahead 19-0.

When Nugent missed that extra point, he had the exact same success rate on field goals this season (20 of 25, 80 percent) as he did on extra points (20 of 25, 80 percent). That’s not good.

Kickers across the league have had a tougher time making the extra points since the league moved them back to a 33-yard attempt. Nobody hates the new rule more than Nugent.
