Mike Evans says Tom Brady is already 'one of my favorite teammates'

Things are going well between Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans and new quarterback Tom Brady. Evans had nothing but flattering things to say about Brady, calling him a hard worker, and saying Brady is already among Evans’ “favorite teammates.”

That’s high praise from Evans, 26, considering the two haven’t played a single game together yet. Still, Evans has been impressed with what he’s seen from Brady thus far, according to ESPN.

"He's the GOAT, on and off the field. It's crazy. He's a superstar — the most accomplished player in our game in history, and he's just like everybody else," Evans said. "He just works extremely hard, he's always taking care of his body. He loves his family. He loves family time. He's just cool. He's a real down-to-earth guy.

"He's already up there as one of my favorite teammates, and we've only had a few practices together. So that says a lot. I'm learning a lot from him and hopefully we can tear it up this year."

Brady and Evans haven’t had much time to get to know each other, as Brady signed with the team in March. The two were limited in their interactions during the offseason due to coronavirus.

Tom Brady and Mike Evans worked out together in offseason

That didn’t completely stop them from getting in work, though. Despite the virus, Brady, 43, organized offseason workouts with his new Bucs teammates. Evans was a participant in those workouts. Brady continued to organize those workouts even after the NFLPA advised against them.

Evans wasn’t the only member of the Bucs to work out with Brady. A number of receivers, tight ends and running backs participated in those workouts. Tight end Cameron Brate said it was “weird” to have to teach Brady aspects of the team’s offense.

Mike Evans looking for a big season with Tom Brady

It’s tough to imagine Evans can put up better numbers, but that’s the hope with Brady under center. In his six seasons in the NFL, Evans has developed into one of the best receivers in the game. He’s caught 12 touchdowns in a season twice, and has gained over 1,000 receiving yards every year of his career.

Brady is the best quarterback Evans has ever played with, so it’s possible Evans will add another level to his game as long as Brady still has something left in the tank.
