Michigan wide receiver Grant Perry was suspended by the team Thursday after four charges were brought against him in East Lansing District Court.

Perry is accused of touching a woman while she was waiting in line to get into a bar just after midnight on Oct. 15 during Michigan’s bye week. According to MLive.com, Perry is facing two misdemeanor charges of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, a felony charge of assault and battery of a police officer and a minor in possession charge.

Michigan said in a statement that Perry’s absence in Michigan’s next two games after its bye week was related to his arrest.

“The University was made aware of the arrest of student-athlete Grant Perry earlier this fall,” the statement said. “He was immediately suspended from all team activities at that time and missed two games. Based on the information at that time, Grant was allowed to resume team activities pending the outcome of the investigation.

“Upon being informed that charges would be filed, he was immediately and indefinitely suspended from all team activities until the legal process is completed.”

A police spokesperson told the East Lansing State Journal that Perry had to be chased by police after officers arrived to the scene and an officer got a “minor hand injury” while wrangling the wide receiver. A tear in the left shoulder of Perry’s shirt is visible in his mug shot.

Perry is the team’s fourth-leading receiver and No. 3 wide receiver behind Amara Darboh and Jehu Chesson. The sophomore has 13 catches for 183 yards and one touchdown.
