Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday that cornerback Jeremy Clark suffered a torn ACL vs. Penn State.

Clark was injured on a kickoff return in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game. Harbaugh said after the game that he didn’t think the team was “able to dodge a bullet” on Clark’s injury and confirmed the ACL tear during his Monday press conference.

Per The Wolverine, Harbaugh said a petition for a sixth-year of eligibility for Clark would be forthcoming. Players can ask for an extra year if a season-ending injury is suffered during the first third of the season. Clark already redshirted while he was at Michigan which is why he has to petition the NCAA.

Cornerback Jourdan Lewis, who missed the first three games of the season, said he was emotional on the sidelines after Clark’s injury.

“I almost cried on the sideline really,” Lewis said via the Detroit Free Press. “He worked his butt off this whole season to have a great year and he was having a great year. We just told him at least it happened in a quarter of the season where he can get redshirted. I pray he gets back this season, the later half of the season. You never know.”

Clark played an integral role on Michigan’s defense in Lewis’ absence. He’ll finish the season with 10 tackles and three passes broken up. The 6-4 DB started seven games in 2015 and six games in 2014.
