How Michael Vick ended up on an episode of 'Atlanta'

If you’re not watching “Atlanta,” the greatest dramatic comedy on television right now, you’re missing out, for any number of reasons. One: a recent episode featured a very funny cameo from a former quarterback of the dramatic comedy that is Atlanta’s NFL team.

Yes, Michael Vick, the onetime pariah, newly welcomed back into the Falcons fold, did a brief cameo in this season’s third episode, “Money Bag Shawty,” as himself, racing all comers in a strip club parking lot. Earn, the series’ lead character, played by creator Donald Glover, decides to take on Vick, figuring that since the ex-QB has raced six times in the last 10 minutes, he’ll be easy pickings. And here’s how it went:

Anyone who ever played Madden could’ve told you that was gonna happen, Earn.

So how did Vick get involved in the project? His wife Kijafa is an executive producer, and helped wrangle the deal, according to a new Bleacher Report story. “Sometimes for people, whenever you’re doing something new or going to different places and experiencing different things, if it’s outside of your normal routine, you don’t want to step out there,” Vick said. “But that was one where I found out it was Donald Glover, and it was one of the hottest shows on TV. I’m like, ‘It’s Atlanta. I have to do it.’ So I did it.”

Vick’s got a regular gig as an NFL analyst for Fox Sports, but he allowed that the spot has opened up a few new possibilities. “After seeing that, I’ve gotten a lot of requests to come out and race guys outside of the club,” he told BR. “Whether it’s a strip club or a regular club, I might make that my side hustle, man. Maybe two weekends out of the month, I’ll go ahead and make me some money.”

If you do end up racing Vick, let us know. Just don’t expect to win. Faster people than you have come up short.
