Miami Northwestern alum Twanisha Terry finishes fifth in 100 meters in Paris Olympics
Liberty City’s Twanisha “Tee Tee” Terry placed fifth in the women’s 100 meters in 10.97.
“She did not execute out of the blocks and had an issue from 40 to 50 meters,” said Terry’s former coach at Northwestern High, Carmen Jackson, who is in Paris to watch three of the five athletes she’s sent to the Olympics over her stellar career. “That will give her motivation to go back to the drawing board and correct mistakes.”
Favorite Sha’Carri Richardson, Terry’s training partner in Clermont, has been struggling with her starts and had another slow push out of the blocks. She made up a lot of ground but couldn’t catch Alfred and placed second.
St Lucia’s Alfred, who competed for the University of Texas, led from start to finish and won her island’s first Olympic medal.
“I did all I could in that moment. To make it to the final with my teammates, to see them win medals, and to know that our hard work paid off - it was an amazing experience,” said Terry, who will also compete in the 400 meter relay.
Melissa Jefferson was the third American in the final. Jefferson, who also trains with Terry and Richardson in central Florida, won the bronze medal.Absent was Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, two-time Olympic gold medalist in the 100. She withdrew from her semifinal after injuring a hamstring during warmup.
