The ‘Met Gala of durags’: Charlotte’s Durag Festival set to return for 5th year

Charlotte’s Durag Festival, dubbed the “Met Gala of durags,” is coming back for a fifth year and expected to draw thousands.

The festival’s mission this year is to “make Juneteenth the most celebrated holiday on Earth” by showcasing African-American culture and talent, according to the event website.

Attendees can expect an art exhibit featuring more than 20 artists, a Y2K-themed salon, Black-owned food trucks, a street fashion show, wave check contest and plenty of activities for kids.

Fans of live music can also see emerging hip-hop artists and DJs, like Kyle Genesis, OG Bri and DJ Bezzie Beats on the main stage.

If you can’t make it, there are plenty of ways to celebrate the culture during the week leading up to the event, including a make-your-own durag workshop and R&B rooftop day party.
