Megan Thee Stallion brought a little heat to the 2023 MTV VMAs, stepping out in a black custom Brandon Blackwood NYC corset gown. She accessorized the transparent dress with a statement diamond choker and bracelet, making it a truly luxe look for the singer, who’s performing at the awards show with Cardi B. They will put on the first live performance of their new single, “Bongos.”
Megan is a VMAs nominee, too. Her song “Her” is up for best music video direction, best art direction, and best choreography.
Recently, Cardi spoke to SiriusXM’s Swaggy Sie about the inspiration for “Bongos,” explaining why the song works better as a collaboration with Megan, as opposed to just a solo track.
“I had the beat for a minute, and then I had the record for a minute, like the beat was just so undeniable, and the feel is so undeniable,” Cardi started. “I had the, ‘Eat this ass like a plum. This pussy tight like a nun.’ I had that for a minute, and I had for a minute, in the middle of the song, like, but it always sounded incomplete because the hook, like ‘Bong, bong, bong,’ I was like, ‘I just wanna let this ride out, because this is so addicting,’ but it still sounded incomplete. So then I started putting my verses on it, like where like the parts where Megan is at, like when you hear it, think, but it just sounded to me like a long ass song. Like a long ass song, and I’m like, ‘This song needs dynamic, so it needs a feature.’ Like, it just cannot sound like me, me, me, me, me, me, me, because it just feels like a long, long sentence.”
