Meet the life-size Lego version of David Ortiz

The David Ortiz farewell tour has inspired many gifts and tokens of appreciation throughout the season. We have to say though that none have topped this creation in terms of size, effort or creativity.

Your eyes do not deceive. You’re looking at a life-size David Ortiz made entirely from Legos. That’s 34,510 bricks to be exact, which is a pretty cool number considering Ortiz sports the No. 34 for Boston.

According to CBS Boston, the project was overseen by LEGO master builder Erik Varszegi and took builders 290 hours to complete. The completed figure is actually slightly taller than Ortiz at 6-foot, 7-inches tall. However, it weighs less at 170 pounds.

The Lego statue, which features Ortiz crossing home plate and celebrating a home run, was unveiled during Lego Day at Fenway Park on Wednesday afternoon. It will remain on display at the Fenway Park in the Kids Concourse.

This reveal comes one day after Ortiz hopped in a helicopter to check out a corn maze that was created in his honor in Sterling, Mass.

Needless to say, this David Ortiz fella is kind of a big deal and will definitely be missed in New England when he officially retires at season’s end.
