Maybe Cam is lucky? Cowboys coach Jason Garrett once cut two players for dress-code violations

Everyone went crazy about Cam Newton being benched for the first series of Sunday’s game because he didn’t wear a tie when the Carolina Panthers traveled to Seattle.

He’s not the first player to be punished for a dress-code violation, and getting benched for a series isn’t too bad compared to some other players’ stories.

Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram went down memory lane and recalled that Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett cut two players over dress code violations.

In November of 2015 cornerback Corey White and running back Christine Michael didn’t wear suits on a trip. They were cut. While they probably wouldn’t have gotten the pink slip if their name was “Dez Bryant” or “Tony Romo,” Hill wrote that there is “no doubt the dress code violation led to their ultimate demise.” White said he was told by a coach he was being cut for violating the dress code, according to TMZ.

Also, after Garrett’s first game as a head coach he fined running back Marion Barber for wearing jeans and not wearing a tie, Hill wrote.

Newton accepted his punishment. Nobody is going to cut the reigning MVP over not wearing a tie, but others can attest that the punishment for a dress-code violation can be a lot worse.
