Matthews, Marner recruited by 'Nutcracker', National Ballet of Canada
Suddenly, the Dec. 19 showing of “The Nutcracker” at the National Ballet of Canada could be the hottest ticket in town this holiday season.
Toronto Maple Leafs stars Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner will take the stage as celebrity “cannon dolls” for the Dec. 19 show — a stroke of luck for folks and families kicking off their holiday festivities at the “Christmas spectacular”.

As part of the role, Matthews and Marner will, in colourful attire, blast confetti into the audience at the outset of the show and remain on stage, staying in character throughout.
It’s commonplace for celebrities to participate in “The Nutcracker.” Mark Scheifele and Jacob Trouba played a role in the Royal Winnipeg Ballet two years ago, and seem to have had a bigger role than what’s expected of Matthews and Marner.
The Maple Leafs stars will be on stage one night only, but “The Nutcracker” runs from Dec. 8 to Dec. 30 at the National Ballet of Canada.
