Who is Matt Rife? Comedian’s ticket sales cause Ticketmaster chaos

Move aside, Taylor Swift, because apparently, there’s a star causing chaos on Ticketmaster these days.

His name is Matt Rife, the 27-year-old comedian and actor has self-produced two of his own comedy specials, Only Fans and Matthew Steven Rife, before reaching viral fame that’s led to broken-hearted fans unable to procure tickets to his latest world tour, ProbleMATTic.

According to Slate, Rife made a name for himself after appearing on Nick Cannon’s Wild ’N Out comedy show back in 2015, where he awkwardly hit on Zendaya in a moment that went viral.

Since then, he had a short co-hosting stint on MTV’s TRL reboot and appeared on the network’s competition reality show, The Challenge. He also dated actress Kate Beckinsale in 2017 but hasn’t been publicly linked romantically with anyone else since then.

Now he’s reached a new level of fame after posting TikToks and Instagrams of his stand-up work, where he’s famous for interacting with the audience.

On TikTok alone, he has 14.4 million followers and has been growing a devoted fan base for the last couple of years.

“This is why I love the kid…he is SEAMLESS with the crowd work and will flirt and be funny at the same time…” said @magnusblack77.

“Matt NEVER MISSES!!!” commented Beachbody star @shaunt on a Rife post.

After announcing that his world tour ticket sales would start on June 6, Rife broke the Internet when loyal fans went to purchase tickets and instead had to deal with Ticketmaster.

Slate reported that there had been multiple glitches with the Ticketmaster site that have resulted in problems getting sales, prices skyrocketing, and even Rife himself contributing to the chaos by posting his presale codes so early that it caused a queue of over 2,000 people.

“im currently fighting for my life in this queue. im halfway through and still 2000+ ahead and got the notif that tickets are extremely limited.” @marina posted on Twitter.

The Ticketmaster drama has contributed to his growing popularity as Twitter users who had never previously heard of him became curious after seeing complaints about getting tickets.

Rife’s website shows that all shows through the summer are sold out, although some new tickets may be available starting in September.
