Matt Cooke knee takes out Tyson Barrie

Minnesota Wild forward Matt Cooke was offered an in-person hearing with the NHL's department of player safety after his knee-on-knee hit to Colorado Avalanche defenceman Tyson Barrie on Monday night.

The play occurred 2:02 into the second period of Game 3 of the team's playoff series.

Barrie left the game and was diagnosed with an injury to his medial collateral ligament (MCL) that could sideline him for as much as six weeks.

Cooke was issued a two-minute minor for kneeing.

An offer of an in-person hearing is required in order for the NHL to suspend a player for more than five games.
