Disney+ has unveiled its UK offering with a flourish, delivering a star-studded list consisting of more than 500 movies, dozens of TV series and, of course, more than 600 episodes of The Simpsons.

One of the key selling points of the Mouse House’s new streaming platform, launching 24 March, is the allure of its enviable superhero back catalogue. The Marvel Cinematic Universe dominates multiplexes and, with pretty much the entire franchise coming to Disney+ on launch day, it’ll be dominating living rooms too.

But beyond the MCU, Disney has an interesting selection of other properties in the Marvel stable. Some of them are making it to Disney+, but not everything will be available straight away.

Fans can currently subscribe to Disney+ for the introductory price of £49.99. This pre-launch offer for the annual subscription is only available until 23 March 2020, and is equivalent to £4.17 per month.

Most of the MCU’s big guns are present and correct, with every movie featuring the likes of Iron Man and Captain America available on Disney+ on launch day. All four Avengers movies have, unsurprisingly, made the cut as well — alongside both Guardians of the Galaxy entries.

MCU movies not available on Disney+ UK at launch

The only missing MCU movies are perhaps fairly obvious ones. Both of Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man solo efforts — Homecoming and Far From Home — are absent, and so is 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.

Spidey is effectively on loan to the MCU from Sony and so his solo adventures are still the property of that studio (including the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield films) as are Spidey-adjacent movies like Venom and the upcoming Morbius.

Hulk, meanwhile, is partially tied up with Universal in a complex rights tangle that has consistently held up a solo outing for Mark Ruffalo’s take on Bruce Banner.

X-Men

This is a big prize for British subscribers to Disney+ and one of the big boons of the Disney-Fox merger. Disney now owns the X-Men library and, though it’s taking its time before bringing mutants into the MCU, they’re making their arrival on Disney+.

American subscribers don’t have access to these movies, but other territories — including Canada — can watch the lion’s share of the X-Men franchise, from the sublime to the X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

There are also some notable absences in the X-Men world. It’s not that much of a shock to see the R-rated Deadpool, Deadpool 2 and Logan missing from the Disney’s family-friendly platform, but it is more surprising that Matthew Vaughn’s 2011 sort-of-reboot X-Men: First Class isn’t set to be available, and neither is Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse.

When the X-Men movies were recently added to Disney+ in Canada, First Class and Apocalypse were present, but UK viewers will have to wait. Dark Phoenix has yet to be added too, but that is unavailable elsewhere in the world as well.

Chris Evans fans not satisfied with being able to watch all of his Captain America movies in one sitting can also indulge themselves in 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. The future Steve Rogers, four years before he was injected with super serum, plays Johnny Storm in this fun but forgettable cartoony romp.

Also coming to the service on launch are animated movies Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, Marvel Super Hero Adventures: Frost Fight!, Marvel’s Hulk: Where Monsters Dwell, Marvel’s Iron Man & Captain America: Heroes United, and Marvel’s Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United.

And documentaries Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe and Marvel: 75 Years, From Pulp to Pop!.

Missing in action

Chris Evans’ first Fantastic Four film, released in 2005, is not available on Disney+ at launch, neither is Josh Trank’s 2015 reboot featuring future Marvel Studios star – Black Panther’s Michael B Jordan – as Johnny Storm.

Also absent from the service are Fox’s other Marvel superhero movies Daredevil and Elektra.
