Manchester United reach unwanted milestone with Fenerbahce draw
Manchester United’s disappointing start to the season continued with a 1-1 draw at Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Erik ten Hag’s team are now winless in three European games this season, having drawn each of their opening three Europa League games. The draw in Turkey followed earlier stalemates with FC Twente and Porto this season, while it also extended a woeful recent record in continental competition.
Manchester United have now failed to win a European game for over a year, while their poor results have seen the Red Devils win just once in UEFA competitions in 19 months.
Last season, United crashed out of the Champions League at the group stage, finishing bottom of a modest group that included Bayern Munich, Galatasaray and Copenhagen.
This time around there’s work to be done to secure progress in the Europa League, with Ten Hag’s team failing to live up to their pre-tournament status as one of the favourites for the trophy.
Manchester United’s results in Europe since 2023/24
Bayern Munich 4-3 Man Utd
Man Utd 2-3 Galatasaray
Man Utd 1-0 Copenhagen
Copenhagen 4-3 Man Utd
Galatasaray 3-3 Man Utd
Man Utd 0-1 Bayern Munich
Man Utd 1-1 FC Twente
Porto 3-3 Man Utd
Fenerbahce 1-1 Man Utd
