Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed the club will not be appealing Casemiro’s red card.

The Brazilian was given his marching orders during Saturday’s win over Crystal Palace for putting his hands around Will Hughes’ neck during a melee between the two teams at Old Trafford.

While ten Hag criticised the decision to dismiss his player, the Dutchman confirmed United will not risk an appeal.

Were the FA to consider the appeal ‘frivolous’ they could extend the ban from three games to four.

“We considered it, yes, but I don’t think we have a chance in a legal process,” said the United boss on Tuesday.

In that instance, Casemiro would be ruled out of the Carabao Cup final meeting with Newcastle at Wembley later this month.

With Chrisitan Eriksen out, the club will be taking no such risk over another key player’s long-term availability.

Casemiro will miss United’s double-header against Leeds this week as well as the visit of Leicester before the Wembley final.

Scott McTominay has also been ruled out of Wednesday’s game through injury, leaving Marcel Sabitzer and Fred as the only senior options.
