Etihad Stadium officials are reportedly eyeing up to six new signings for Pep Guardiola’s struggling and ageing Manchester City squad, according to reports.

The Premier League champions’ somewhat naive and reactive approach to recent transfer windows has left them ruing their ‘mistakes’ over the last 10 matches across all competitions in particular this season.

Pep Guardiola and his players have recorded just one win in that run of contests, losing seven matches including heavy blows in their pursuit of a UEFA Champions League last-16 place in 2025.

The most recent defeat came at the hands of Juventus in Turin on Wednesday night, as a lacklustre showing for most parts of the game was met with the ultimate punishment on the counter-attack from Juventus.

Goals from Dusan Vlahovic and Weston McKennie leave Manchester City in 22nd position with just two matches remaining, and certainly requiring points from either the away trip to Paris Saint-Germain or their matchday eight meeting with Club Brugge at home.

In the meantime, Etihad bosses will be eyeing the next phase of Guardiola’s operation at the club, and what needs to be done to ensure that the team remains at the very forefront of the chase for Europe’s top titles in the coming seasons.

And according to the information of The Telegraph, there is currently a ‘firm acceptance’ within Manchester City that they need to buy in January and, depending on who leaves the club, there could be between four and six signings over the next two transfer windows.

One area of the squad that is expected to be under the microscope is defensive midfield, with Manchester City currently battling across all competitions without the services of their Ballon d’Or winner due to a long-term injury for the Spaniard.

The Premier League champions may even consider bringing in a player during the January market to fill in for Rodri’s absence, with the 28-year-old not expected to return until the summer months.

Among the names tipped by various quarters of European media to have attracted interest and conversation within Manchester City are the likes of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, Atalanta’s Ederson, and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.
