Man walking near Highway 180 in Fresno County gets struck, dies at the scene

A man walking in the dark of the night Wednesday near Highway 180 was fatally struck, according to California Highway Patrol.

It happened around 10:20 p.m. near the area of Bryan Avenue and Highway 180.

CHP public information officer Mike Salas said the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and for unknown reasons walked directly into the pathway of a Honda that was heading east.

The Honda driver ended up striking the pedestrian and the man died at the scene, CHP said.

The man killed was identified Friday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as Ildifonso Ibarra, 67, of Kerman.

CHP added that it does not suspect drugs or alcohol played a factor in the collision.

“It appears to be just a very tragic accident,” Salas said. “The pedestrian walked out into the path of that vehicle.

“There was nothing that the driver could do at that point (to avoid hitting the pedestrian).”

The area was closed for about one hour.
