Man, 21, dies after drive-by shooting in Toronto's west end that injured 4 others

A man is dead after a drive-by shooting in the west end Friday night, Toronto police say.

Investigators have identified the victim as Mohamed Sow, 21, of Toronto. Toronto police's homicide unit has taken over the investigation.

Police said in news release over the weekend that Sow was 20 years old, but confirmed Monday he was in fact 21.

Four other people, including a woman and three men, were seriously injured after two suspects began "indiscriminately" shooting at a crowd of people. Their injuries are said to be non-life-threatening.

An online fundraiser for Sow's family says he was an only child, and describes him as a bright young man who will be remembered as "gentle, kind and meek."

"Our family is deeply heartbroken by this tragedy," the fundraiser page says.

Police were called around 10:17 p.m. on Friday to the area of 251 Woolner Avenue near Jane Street and St. Clair Avenue West for reports of gunfire.

Investigators say Sow was in the plaza parking lot among different social groups when a suspect vehicle entered the lot from Woolner Avenue and opened fire hitting him and the other four people.

Sow — who was driven to hospital prior to ambulance arriving at the scene — died of his injuries just after 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Police say they are looking for two suspects who were in a black sedan and both drove away after the shooting.

Homicide investigators say they want to speak to anyone who may have knowledge concerning this investigation.
