Luton vs Arsenal LIVE! Rice winner - Premier League result, match stream, latest reaction and updates today

Luton vs Arsenal - LIVE!

Declan Rice scored a last-gasp winner to settle a seven-goal thriller at Luton, sparing the blushes of goalkeeper David Raya to send Arsenal five points clear at the top of the Premier League. Luton had looked on course to land a thoroughly deserved draw after two errors from Raya had seen them hit the front - only for the Gunners to rally and win it 4-3 at the death.

Raya embraced Rice at the full-time whistle after Kai Havertz had earlier drawn the visitors level in what proved to be a thrilling contest at Kenilworth Road. The visitors had led 2-1 at half-time as Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus scored either side of a Gabriel Osho equaliser.

Raya, whose role as Arteta's number one continues to be in the spotlight with Aaron Ramsdale warming the bench, then gifted two goals to Luton in the space of eight minutes as Elijah Adebayo and Ross Barkley turned the game on its head. Havertz appeared to have salvaged a point for Arsenal but they pushed on to the last and £105million summer signing Rice nodded in a fine Martin Odegaard cross to wrap up the victory.

This always had the potential to be a tricky trip for Arsenal, but Mikel Arteta surely can’t have predicted it playing out like this.

In the end, the Gunners left Kenilworth Road with all three points after a truly bonkers 4-3 win.

It was a night of chaos and errors, with poor defending and individual mistakes costing Arsenal for all three of the goals they conceded.

Declan Rice was their saviour at the end, continuing his remarkable start to life at Arsenal with a winner in the final minute of the match.

Rice on Arsenal's five-point lead at the top

22:52 , Matt Verri

"We have to take it every game as it comes," he said.

"[Arsenal] were eight points clear last season.

"We have new players like me coming in and learning. It's just about us and not worrying about anyone else and getting three points each week."

Not particularly keen to talk about Raya...

David Raya 4

A shocking night for the Spaniard. Came to claim a corner but was beaten in the air by Elijah Adebayo, then allowed Ross Barkley's shot to squirm under him too easily.

Kai Havertz 8

Back in the starting lineup and in the goals again. Found the net after being played in by a brilliant flick from Jesus. Finally finding his feet.

The Hatters are defending superbly though - Trossard has no space as he knocks the ball out of play.

Luton 3-3 Arsenal

21:57 , Matt Verri

Best of luck guessing what we're going to get in the final 30 minutes or so of this match...

Luton 3-3 Arsenal

21:39 , Matt Verri

62 mins: A triple change for Luton.

Adebayo, Townsend, Brown all off just after the hour mark. Morris, Chong, Ogbene on for the Hatters.

Simon Collings at Kenilworth Road

21:38 , Matt Verri

Arsenal's whole season has been about control, but this game is just pure chaos.

Could finish 5-5 at this rate.

GOAL! Luton 3-3 Arsenal | Kai Havertz 60'

21:37 , Matt Verri

LEVEL AGAIN!

Chaos at Kenilworth Road.

Havertz has another goal for the Gunners and boy did they need it. Saka lumps the ball forward, Jesus flicks it through to Havertz and the German lifts it over the goalkeeper.

GOAL! Luton 3-2 Arsenal | Ross Barkley 57'

21:34 , Matt Verri

LUTON TAKE THE LEAD!

Awful from Raya. Townsend fires the ball to Barkley, who is forced outside by Gabriel.

Left-footed strike from Barkley, pretty much straight at Raya but the goalkeeper lets it straight through him.

Luton 2-2 Arsenal

21:33 , Matt Verri

56 mins: Townsend continues to cause Arsenal problems down Luton's right. He's been really direct, and has worked so hard off the ball.

Will the hosts start to tire? Arsenal will be hoping so, at they moment they're in a real fight.

Poor from Raya

21:30 , Matt Verri

Again the Gunners fail to deal with a corner...

Luton 2-2 Arsenal

21:29 , Matt Verri

52 mins: Arsenal then have to find a way to take the lead for a third time.

They're straight on the front foot, Jesus sliding the pass wide to Saka. His shot is blocked, comes to Kiwior who thinks he was fouled on the edge of the box.

Not going to get anything for that.

Simon Collings at Kenilworth Road

21:28 , Matt Verri

Another set-piece, another goal for Luton. Arteta will be livid.

GOAL! Luton 2-2 Arsenal | Elijah Adebayo 49'

21:26 , Matt Verri

Luton 1-2 Arsenal

21:25 , Matt Verri

48 mins: Scrappy start to the half, which will suit Luton just fine.

Doughty has been up and down the left wing on all night, and he bursts past Saka and Odegaard. Gets to the byline, can't pick anyone out with the cut-back.

Back underway!

21:22 , Matt Verri

Up and running again at Kenilworth Road!

Mixing it up...

Arsenal back in front!

21:14 , Matt Verri

Brilliant ball from White to leave Jesus with a simple finish.

Simon Collings at Kenilworth Road

Really think Luton will struggle to keep this intensity up.

There's a reason they've conceded more second-half goals than anyone in the Premier League.

HT: Luton 1-2 Arsenal

21:06 , Matt Verri

And that is the end of the first 45 minutes.

Been an entertaining watch. Arsenal took the lead through Martinelli, before Osho quickly levelled things up from a corner.

The Gunners do have a narrow advantage heading into the break though, thanks to Jesus' header.

Luton 1-2 Arsenal

21:04 , Matt Verri

45+4 mins: Luton corner just before half-time. Arsenal need to be very, very careful. Might want to mark Osho this time.

Better from the Gunners, Saliba rises highest and powers a header away.

Luton 1-2 Arsenal

21:02 , Matt Verri

45+2: Five minutes added on.

Jesus has a yellow card to go with his goal, punished for bringing down Barkley just after the restart.

Simon Collings at Kenilworth Road

21:01 , Matt Verri

A big goal for Arsenal before the break.

Jesus has been coping some flack from the home fans and takes the chance to shush them.

GOAL! Luton 1-2 Arsenal | Gabriel Jesus 45'

21:00 , Matt Verri

Brilliant!

White makes the run on the right, gets to the byline and stands up a wonderful cross to the back post.

Floats up perfectly for Jesus, who can't miss with the header.

Luton 1-1 Arsenal

21:00 , Matt Verri

44 mins: Barkley slides in on Martinelli, completely pointless challenge. Earns himself a yellow card - "every time" is Martinelli's feedback to the referee.

Luton 1-1 Arsenal

20:58 , Matt Verri

43 mins: Martinelli shoved out of play, again he's waving his hand around in pain.

Arsenal opt not to kick the ball out though, and there's ironic cheers from the home fans as Martinelli trudges back on.

Luton 1-1 Arsenal

20:55 , Matt Verri

40 mins: Really nice from Saka, chopping onto his left foot and whipping an effort towards the far corner. Parried away, and turned behind for a corner with Martinelli lurking.

It's fired into the near post, ball bobbles around before Luton eventually clear.

Luton 1-1 Arsenal

20:54 , Matt Verri

38 mins: Saliba too keen as he challenges in the air, soft free-kick. This'll be flung into the box.

Arsenal defend this one well though, more like we've become used to this season. That goal conceded from a corner was really out of character.

Luton 1-1 Arsenal

20:51 , Matt Verri

36 mins: Jesus thinks he's turned his man and he looks around, waiting for the whistle to go for a free-kick.

It doesn't come. Luton fans getting increasingly frustrated with what they think is Arsenal diving.

Luton 1-1 Arsenal

20:47 , Matt Verri

32 mins: Great save from Kaminski!

Jesus allowed to drive down the left, he waits for options and then slides the pass inside to Martinelli.

Nice first touch, works the space for a shot and the Luton goalkeeper produces a strong hand at his near post.

Luton 1-1 Arsenal

20:45 , Matt Verri

30 mins: Arsenal starting to give away cheap free-kicks - could really do with avoiding that. Kiwior just bundles into the back of Townsend, change for Luton to ping something into the box from close to the halfway line.

Barkley does just that, but it's too loopy and Raya can easily claim.

Luton 1-1 Arsenal

20:43 , Matt Verri

28 mins: Tight angle, Jesus hammers an effort at goal. Turned behind for a corner.

Saka takes it short to Martinelli, who tries to flick it back to his team-mate. Door is slammed shut door.

Simon Collings at Kenilworth Road

20:42 , Matt Verri

Kenilworth Road had just been losing its voice, but it is raucous again now.

Big period coming up for Arsenal now.

GOAL! Luton 1-1 Arsenal | Gabriel Osho 25'

20:40 , Matt Verri

IT'S ALL SQUARE!

Simple as you like. Luton win their first corner of the match, swung into the middle, and Osho is pretty much unmarked as he powers a header past Raya.

Luton 0-1 Arsenal

20:38 , Matt Verri

23 mins: Luton are rattled now, Arsenal firmly on top.

Kiwior clips the ball into Jesus, he lays it off to Havertz who has a shot blocked.

Comes back to Jesus, no real room but he squeezes a shot away. Straight at the goalkeeper.

Simon Collings at Kenilworth Road

20:37 , Matt Verri

Rob Edwards will be livid with that.

Luton have worked so hard off the ball - and it's all undone by a poor back pass.

GOAL! Luton 0-1 Arsenal | Gabriel Martinelli 20'

20:36 , Matt Verri

ARSENAL IN FRONT!

Ruthless. A poor back pass from Luton, Kaminski can only boot it out for a throw-in.

Jesus takes the throw-in quickly, Saka is free in the box. Cuts it back to Martinelli, who scuffs his effort a bit but it's good enough.

Luton 0-0 Arsenal

20:33 , Matt Verri

17 mins: Martinelli looks to have run off that earlier issue.

He drives down the left wing, again he has both Townsend and Kabore for company though. Brazilian looks to fire the ball into the middle, but it's charged down and bobbles back off him, out of play.

Simon Collings at Kenilworth Road

20:31 , Matt Verri

Bukayo Saka getting pelters from the home fans early on.

Twice he's gone down when fouled and Luton supporters are fuming that he's diving.

Luton 0-0 Arsenal

20:30 , Matt Verri

14 mins: Chance for Adebayo in the box, Saliba just about gets his body in the way and stops the ball going out for the corner.

The Frenchman is there again, as Barkley slides a pass through. This time he sees it out for a goal-kick.

Luton 0-0 Arsenal

20:27 , Matt Verri

12 mins: This has been a good start from Luton.

Arsenal with plenty of the ball, but the hosts won't care about that. Luton looking solid enough at the back, and have had a couple of promising moments with the ball.

Luton 0-0 Arsenal

20:25 , Matt Verri

9 mins: Luton keen to go long to Adebayo as quickly as they can.

But Saliba and Gabriel won't mind that at all, the Arsenal centre-back pairing are very much capable of holding their own in a physical battle.

Simon Collings at Kenilworth Road

20:22 , Matt Verri

Proper old-school ground this.

Arsenal's execs here tonight, but they are basically in with the home fans.

Luton 0-0 Arsenal

20:22 , Matt Verri

6 mins: He's had some treatment, but Martinelli still isn't looking great. He just about drags himself to the touchline.

Play back underway, Odegaard looks to sweep the ball out wide to Saka, but too much on it. Out of play.

Martinelli going to try and carry on for now.

Luton 0-0 Arsenal

20:20 , Matt Verri

4 mins: It's all very scrappy.

Martinelli has gone down as Mengi bangs into him from behind - he looks in a lot of pain.

Seems to have been a knee into the lower back.

Luton 0-0 Arsenal

20:18 , Matt Verri

3 mins: Sharp from Martinelli, skips between Kabore and Townsend and wins a free-kick for Arsenal out wide. Up come Saliba and Gabriel.

It's Rice who will whip this into the middle, trying to prove he can do everything. A really decent delivery, Havertz not far away from getting on the end of it... headed clear.

KICK-OFF!

20:15 , Matt Verri

We are up and running!

20:11 , Matt Verri

Kaminski, the Luton goalkeeper, has to duck in the tunnel. It's so small he can't stand up straight.

Odegaard just about ok. An old-school feel... officials having to barge their way through the players.

Ten-minute warning!

20:06 , Matt Verri

Kick-off coming up very, very shortly.

Kenilworth Road packed as you'd expect, atmosphere continues to build. Players will be in the tunnel in the next couple of minutes.

Arteta full of praise for Luton

20:01 , Matt Verri

Mikel Arteta insists he has prepared his side for what they will face at Kenilworth Road tonight.

“We have already warned them, they know what to expect,” said Arteta. “They know about the atmosphere and they know about the access.

“They know everything, and especially they have to know about the team that they have to face and the difficulties we are going to have to play against them, and as well what the opportunities are for us to win the game.

“I would say it is an inspiring place. I think what they've done is remarkable with what Rob did with the team last year, the way they did it and what they transmitted as a team.

“We are neighbours and we’re always very close to here so it's just an amazing story. They fully deserve all the credit they are getting, from last year as well as the way they are playing this season."

Pre-match thoughts from Rob Edwards

19:56 , Matt Verri

"This week and these next couple of days for us are really exciting," the Luton boss says.

"A few years ago playing against Manchester City and Arsenal in the same week would’ve felt like a million miles away and not possible.

"We want to enjoy it but our job is to be competitive, which we will be."

Simon Collings at Kenilworth Road

19:50 , Matt Verri

Luton are the only side in the Premier League this season to play over 300 crosses, so not surprising Arteta has gone for height tonight by bringing in Havertz, Kiwior and White.

They know what it takes!

19:46 , Matt Verri

It's been 20 years since Arsenal last lifted the Premier League trophy.

Edu and Thierry Henry were part of that Invincibles side - they'd both love to see the long wait end in May!

Simon Collings at Kenilworth Road

19:39 , Matt Verri

It looks to be an Arsenal lineup ready for a very physical evening.

Ramsdale to Newcastle?

19:33 , Matt Verri

Newcastle have emerged as an option for Aaron Ramsdale, should the Arsenal goalkeeper go in search of more regular first-team football.

The Magpies lost Nick Pope to a shoulder injury at the weekend - he may not even play again this season.

Arteta, however, has insisted he wants to keep Ramsdale, although he stopped short of guaranteeing the goalkeeper will be with Arsenal after the January transfer window.

The Gunners are in a strong position with Ramsdale, as the 25-year-old signed a new contract in May until 2026 that also contains the option to extend it by a further 12 months.

“I want Aaron with us,” Arteta said. “I am very happy to have two very good goalkeepers and Aaron is staying with us. I won’t say that no player is going to go to Newcastle, or no member of the staff.

“I cannot guarantee that nobody is going to be leaving in January, for Newcastle or any other club. Like any player, Aaron wants to play for Arsenal."

Arteta backs Jesus

19:26 , Matt Verri

Mikel Arteta believes Gabriel Jesus has the ability to become a prolific goalscorer for Arsenal.

Jesus has scored just 16 times in 47 matches since his £45million move from Manchester City last year, but launched a passionate defence of his game last week and insisted he brings more to the table than just goals.

Arteta has praised Jesus for his all-round game, but wants the Brazilian, who has scored only one League goal this season, to improve his finishing.

“We need goals from him, that’s for sure,” said Arteta. “He has scored a lot of goals for us and he can still improve in that aspect, like he can improve in other aspects.

“He knows that and he is trying to do that, but there is so much that he gives that it is difficult to put a number on. But I am really happy with his overall performances.

“The reason why he hasn’t done it as well, he hasn’t had the consistency and enough minutes, probably when he was at City as well, to produce those numbers that you need to be doing. But I think he has the ability to do that, for sure.”

Three Arsenal changes

19:20 , Matt Verri

Mikel Arteta shuffles his pack to a degree then.

Takehiro Tomiyasu not fit and he misses out on the squad completely, with Ben White coming in at right-back.

Jakub Kiwior is a surprise inclusion at left-back, as Oleksandr Zinchenko drops to the bench, while Kai Havertz gets the nod over Leandro Trossard in midfield.

Fair to say it's not a particularly warm night at Kenilworth Road...

Guardiola: We will win the Premier League

19:00 , Matt Verri

Pep Guardiola is confident his Manchester City side will secure an unprecedented fourth successive Premier League title this season.

The champions remain firm favourites to retain their crown despite being held to three consecutive draws at the hands of Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham.

Yet their current form has prompted some observers to wonder if the team still retain the hunger to triumph again after last season's treble success.

Guardiola, however, has no doubt and has sent out a strong message to rivals that there is no complacency within his squad.

"My feeling today is we're going to win the Premier League," said the City manager at a press conference to preview Wednesday's game at Aston Villa.

"If we play at the levels that we showed against Liverpool and Tottenham, we're going to win it again."

Our man Simon Collings is in place at Kenilworth Road...

Huge night for Luton

18:47 , Matt Verri

Luton have nine points from their opening 14 Premier League matches of the season, enough to keep them out of the bottom three thanks to Everton's ten-point deduction.

The Hatters have two wins to their name - against Everton and Crystal Palace.

Fair to say that if they make it a third tonight, it will be one of the best results in the club's history.

Odegaard back to his best?

18:40 , Matt Verri

A week is a long time in football, just ask Mikel Arteta. Seven days ago, the Arsenal manager was fielding questions about his side's stuttering attack.

Eight goals in two games have silenced the critics since, and if Arsenal beat Luton tonight they will stretch their lead at the top of the Premier League to five points.

The Gunners travel to Kenilworth Road with the belief that their attack has begun to click — and that has coincided with Martin Odegaard's return to form.

Injuries have made it a difficult start to the season for the Arsenal captain, but last week suggested he is back to his best. Odegaard scored against both Lens and Wolves, however, it was his overall performance against the latter that really caught the eye.

No one made more passes than Odegaard, and he was unlucky to walk away without an assist on Saturday after creating six chances for his team-mates — the most of any Arsenal player in a game this season.

Jorginho sends warning to team-mates

18:31 , Matt Verri

Jorginho has told his Arsenal team-mates they need to be more ruthless and kill games off to keep their title charge on track.

The Gunners beat Wolves on Saturday to ensure they stayed top of the Premier League, but it was a nervy finish at the end of the match.

Arsenal had raced into a two-goal lead inside the first 15 minutes thanks to goals from Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard. Wolves, however, hit back four minutes before the end of normal time through Matheus Cunha.

Arsenal survived a late rally from the visitors to claim all three points and Jorginho believes the side must use it as a reminder to kill games off.

“In the Premier League the game is never finished,” he said. “When you are 2-0, you need to think that the game is not finished yet. You need to keep pushing, all the way to have three, four [goals], and respect the game.

“It is a mindset, to be honest, because you have the game completely under control and all of a sudden you stop doing the simple things that you need to keep doing, the things that got you there at that point.

“Then you put yourself in trouble, because every single team in the League is strong and they come out. We need to keep pushing for one more, one more, one more. I think that is the mentality that we need to have."

Edwards on Kenilworth Road factor

18:20 , Matt Verri

Luton boss Rob Edwards was asked yesterday if the biggest sides in the Premier League were scared of going to Kenilworth Road... he was keen to avoid giving Arsenal any added motivation!

“I think scared would be the wrong word and I definitely don’t want to be quoted on that one because I don’t want to make them angry as well," Edwards.

“It’s just different for them, it just is. It’s [Kenilworth Road] is obviously very, very old school and the level these players and where they’ve been playing consistently for a long time they’re just used to these huge stadiums now- Kenilworth Road is just not that.

“In terms of noise, we may not be as loud because you can’t make the same noise as a ground with 60, 70, 80 thousand. It’s just intense and it’s on top of you so it is different and it’s quite unique.”

Arteta not looking at Man City

18:11 , Matt Verri

Mikel Arteta insists Arsenal are taking no encouragement from Manchester City stumbling in the title race.

City have drawn their last three Premier League games and it has allowed Arsenal to go top of the table.

City came from behind to beat Arsenal to the title last year, overhauling an eight-point gap at the start of April, and Arteta insists he is taking no motivation from their recent struggles.

“Encouragement? No,” he said. “Encouragement comes from watching my team play and watching how they behave every single day, how hungry and willing they are to play every single game, the way they approach every single training session.

“That’s what gives me encouragement. What the others do is something we cannot control.

“I don’t think about [opening up a five-point gap], I think about how we’re going to play better tomorrow and be more consistent and more difficult to beat.

“The things that have to tweak and how we can use our players in the best possible way to win. It’s still a huge marathon ahead of us.”

This does not have the feeling of a comfortable night for Arsenal...

Standard Sport prediction

17:57 , Matt Verri

Luton have started picking up points after a tough start, but Arsenal will surely have too much for them, especially given the Hatters' latest injuries.

Mikel Arteta will be tempted to rotate with Aston Villa to come at the weekend as the fixtures continue to come thick and fast, but the squad should have plenty in the tank to rack up another win.

Arsenal to win, 2-0.

Arsenal team news

17:50 , Matt Verri

Takehiro Tomiyasu is in a race to prove his fitness ahead of tonight's clash.

The full-back was forced off on Saturday during the Gunners’ 2-1 win over Wolves at Emirates Stadium.

“We assessed him after the game, we took him off as a precaution so we’ll wait,” Arteta said at his pre-match press conference on Monday.

“Whether it’s useful to use him or not, we will decide tomorrow. He’s a strong boy and hopefully he'll be fine.”

If Tomiyasu is out, then Ben White is primed to come into the side. The right-back has had a knee niggle the past few weeks, but is fully fit now.

Kai Havertz is another who could come into the side to take the place of Leandro Trossard in midfield. The German was on the bench against Wolves, but before that had scored two goals in as many games.
