Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer has given an update on his condition after he collapsed in the first-half of their Championship play-off final win over Coventry.

The 28-year-old defender was running back to his own goal when he fell to the Wembley turf and was unable to get back up on Saturday afternoon.

Medical staff were immediately in attendance and Lockyer was conscious as he left the field on a stretcher wearing an oxygen mask.

The Wales international was taken to the stadium’s medical room, where his parents joined him, before going to a specialist hospital in north London.

His dad later tweeted a picture of his son celebrating the moment Luton sealed promotion from his hospital bed, when Coventry’s Fankaty Dabo missed the decisive penalty in a 6-5 shootout victory for the Hatters.

Lockyer reposted the photo on his own Instagram on Sunday afternoon, saying it was “not quite where I thought I’d be celebrating at the final whistle”.

His said his collapse was “a much scarier moment for everyone else than myself”.

He said he was kept in hospital overnight as a precaution and would have further tests today.

“I am feeling very much myself, helped by the way the lads left it all out on pitch!” he added.
