LSU linebacker Arden Key will be away from the team for a bit.

The school said Wednesday that its star rusher was taking a break for personal reasons. A tweet from the school made sure to note that Key was still a member of the team and the statement said neither Key nor coach Ed Orgeron would be commenting further on his absence out of respect for “a personal matter.”

“In consultation with our staff and his family, Arden Key has decided to take some time away from football for personal reasons,” Orgeron said in a statement. “We fully support Arden in his decision and look forward to welcoming him back home to the Tiger family at the appropriate time.”

Key’s father told the Baton Rouge Advocate that his son was “fine.”

Key was one of LSU’s best defensive players in 2016 as a sophomore. In 11 games he had 56 tackles, 12 sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss. He had two sacks in LSU’s bowl game win over Louisville after missing the Tigers’ final regular season game of the season vs. Texas A&M.
