LSU fans thank Assumption College for kicker Cole Tracy

Fresh alumni are greeted each fall with a new reality: phone calls asking for donations to their alma mater.

LSU kicker Cole Tracy is already on top of his contributions to Massachusetts’ Assumption College, where he graduated with a marketing degree last spring. More than 116 LSU fans have donated almost $6,000 to the college through Tuesday evening as a thanks for their new kicker, according to USA Today.

Tracy’s kick lifts LSU over Auburn

Tracy kicked a 42-yard field goal with time expiring to give then-No. 12 LSU a 22-21 victory over No. 7 Auburn in the SEC opener Saturday. The kick was right down the middle and ended in a celebration on the field. LSU moved up to No. 6 in the AP rankings.

Tracy told reporters after the game he knew all week it would come down to a field goal.

That kick, which gave LSU a 3-0 record, brought in hundreds of dollars of donations but it wasn’t what started the giving. Assumption received donations in his honor following the season opener. Tracy hit a 54-yard field goal that hit the cross bar and bounced in to make it a 33-3 lead over Miami late in the third quarter.

The 5-foot-11, 188-pound kicker is 8-for-9 on field goals this season (88.9 percent) and a perfect 8-for-8 on point after attempts.

Donations came in $54 and $42 increments for Tracy’s two major kicks. Some were for $42.36, representing the game-winner and his jersey number.

Tracy asked that all donations in his honor be given to the Greyhounds’ football program, which plays in Division II. The school is considering naming the goal posts after Tracy if the donations keep piling up.

Tracy was named the Fred Mitchell Award winner last season as the best kicker in the FCS, covering both Division II and III levels. He played in 13 games, going 67-for-67 on point-afters and 27-for-29 on field goals.

He holds five records for the school: most points in school history (373), most points in a single season (148 in 2017), most field goals (68), most field goals in a season (27 in 2017) and most field goals in a single game (6, set twice).

“Here, he’s a graduate, one year out of school, and he’s already given back to the school, in essence, over $500 in donations,” Assumption’s Vice President of Institutional Advancement Tim Stanton told the Advocate Sunday, before donations revved up.

“If he keeps it up, he’s going to be the biggest donor in the history of the college.”
