Lourdes Gurriel Jr. suffers injury scare against Yankees
With his side down 12-6 to the New York Yankees in the bottom of the ninth inning, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. wanted to do all that he could to at least give the Toronto Blue Jays a chance at a comeback.

Leading off the inning and staring down a 1-2 count, the 25-year-old chopped a Luis Cessa pitch to his left and took off towards first base. While he got the infield single, he appeared to sustain a leg injury in the process.

It initially appeared that he may have tripped, but a replay of his sprint showed the Cuban in discomfort well before he stumbled into the bag.
Fortunately, following a few moments of discomfort while lying in the dirt, he was able to get up and walk to the dugout under his own power.
Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo erased all worries following the contest’s final out.
"I just went to see Gurriel, he should be fine,” he said. “It wasn't the knee. He felt a cramp in his quad, but he didn't pull anything. So, it looks like he's going to be OK."
Watching Gurriel Jr. grab his leg in agony likely had many Blue Jays fans concerned. He left a game against the Kansas City Royals this season on the final day of July with right knee discomfort after making a nice grab in the outfield. He ended up missing Toronto’s contest against the Baltimore Orioles the following day as a result before returning to the lineup on Aug. 2.
