Looking at how Jaguars rookie receiver Dede Westbrook will do in 2017

The Jaguars took University of Oklahoma wide receiver Dede Westbrook in the fourth round of this years’ draft. When it came out that Westbrook was accused of domestic violence a couple years back, it caused him to drop. There was debates on whether or not he would be taken in the second or third round but he dropped to the fourth.

Now that he is a member of the Jaguars, how well will he produce? Even though Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns will be seeing the field most of the year, don’t be shocked when Westbrook shows that he can be a starting receiver for the future. He’ll most likely split time with Marqise Lee but I believe they will both produce just as well as the starting core of Robinson and Hurns.

Westbrook is undersized, only standing at 6’0″, but don’t think he can’t make plays. Even with his size, Westbrook still plays with aggression. Once he makes the catch, he is hard to stop. I think he could be an excellent slot receiver to start out his career in Jacksonville and work his way up to a potential starting position.

We should see him on special teams this years and he is a dangerous returner. Having him and Lee as their speedy receivers will give these two advantages on passing plays because they are more likely to make plays in the open field. Westbrook has more of an advantage than Lee because he can develop into more of a starting receiver rather than Lee.

Lookout this year for Westbrook to make plays whether he’s catching passes from Blake Bortles or if he is returning punts and kickoffs. I think he’ll need practice to develop his game but he should be able to show he is worthy of playing time by his second or third year. He may be a fourth round pick, but he does have first or second round talent.
