Saturday played host to the most anticipated home game of the year for Penn State, and that excitement was palpable in and around Beaver Stadium — at least until the final whistle.
Although the Nittany Lions fell to Ohio state 20-13, Happy Valley was hopping all morning ahead of the noon kickoff. Fans stood in line early to catch the filming of ESPN College GameDay and Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff, tailgates filled up early, and the Beaver Stadium stands were packed to capacity.
It wasn’t the ending that Penn State fans hoped for, but it was still a memorable day with all the pageantry around the big game for the Nittany Lions. Here are some of those sights and scenes around Beaver Stadium, starting with the morning pregame show of ESPN College GameDay, which filmed near PSU’s Bryce Jordan Center:
Plenty of fans, not interested in standing in line for the pregame shows, instead tailgated in the surrounding lots. And the team showed up to Beaver Stadium around 10 a.m.
Inside Beaver Stadium, the crowd grew rowdy in the early going. And, during the pregame, based on crowd noise, it was clear this would be a memorable game in the series.
The game didn’t go the way Penn State fans wanted. Ohio State fans eventually celebrated Penn State’s 20-13 loss, as the Nittany Lions just couldn’t get the job done on the field.
