Liverpool have captain Jordan Henderson back from injury for today’s Premier League visit to Brighton.

Henderson had missed the Reds’ last two games after picking up a muscle injury while on international duty with England earlier this month, but is included on the bench at Amex Stadium.

“Hendo trained yesterday, parts of team training and then had his individual session, so we have to see what we do with that,” Jurgen Klopp had said on Friday.

The German made late decisions on several of his key men, having voiced his frustration at the lack of recovery time between Wednesday night’s Champions League defeat to Atalanta and this fixture.

In total there are seven changes from that match, with Nat Phillips, Fabinho, Andy Robertson, Diogo Jota, Takumi Minamino and Roberto Firmino all coming into the side and Mohamed Salah leading the line as expected after making his return in midweek.

“For all the other players who played now [against Atalanta], they are still in recovery, so that’s how it is when you have only these few days in between," Klopp had said. "We have to make late decisions, so if you were to ask me now what will be the lineup and I was in a mood to tell you, I couldn’t!

“I [will] make this decision as late as possible because I have to wait until the medical department tells me who looks like [they’re] ready."

Klopp’s main issues remain in defence, where Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all still out injured, with Phillips and Fabinho lining up at centre-back today.

In an exclusive interview with Standard Sport, Alexander-Arnold this week hit out at the hectic schedule which has seen a significant increase in injury rates in the top-flight, claiming the fixture list “defies common sense”.
