How the Dallas Cowboys beat the Washington Commanders 25-10

Fourth quarter highlights

Commanders 13th possession: Final drive gains a first down, but doesn’t go far as Washington drive ends in their own territory as the clock expires.

Cowboys 12th possession: Turn ball over on downs.

Commanders 12th possession: Turn ball over on downs.

Cowboys eleventh possession: Brett Maher hit his fourth field goal of the day to put Dallas ahead 25-10 with 3:51 remaining.

Commanders eleventh possession: Carson Wentz is picked off by DaRon Bland. Dallas takes over near the red zone.

Cowboys tenth possession: The Cowboys came out aggressive looking for Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb on deep shots. Dallas gets to midfield before punting.

Commanders tenth possession: Despite the good field position Washington is unable to come away with points as Trevon Diggs broke up a pass in the endzone on fourth down.

Cowboys ninth possession: Dallas is forced to punt and Bryan Anger shanks it to give Washington great field position at the Dallas 30.

Commanders ninth possession: Washington is forced to punt.

Cowboys eighth possession: On the first play of the quarter Cooper Rush finds a wide open CeeDee Lamb for a 3-yard touchdown. Dallas leads Washingtin 22-10.

Third quarter highlights

Cowboys eighth possession: A deep pass to Michael Gallup draws a defensive pass interference. Cowboys will start the fourth quarter at the WAS 30.

Commanders eighth possession: After gaining 65 yards on back-to-back plays, penalties force the Commanders to settle for a field goal with 1:27 remaining in the third quarter. Dallas leads 15-10.

Cowboys seventh possession: Cooper Rush completes a 45-yard strike to Noah Brown to get into the red zone. The Cowboys added another field goal and lead 15-7.

Commanders seventh possession: Washington is forced to punt again.

Cowboys sixth possession: Cooper Rush has another interception waived off because of a penalty. Cowboys forced to punt.

Commanders sixth possession: Washington picks up a first down, but stalls out before the offense can reach midfield. Commanders punt.

Second quarter highlights

Commanders fifth possession: Trevon Diggs picks off Carson Wentz with 10 seconds remaining before halftime. The Cowboys ran out the clock to take a 12-7 lead into the break.

Cowboys fifth possession: After a penalty wiped off a Cooper Rush interception, the Cowboys marched down the field and Rush eventually finds Michael Gallup for a nine yard touchdown pass. It’s Gallup’s first game back from an ACL injury last January. Dallas leads 12-7 with 1:04 remaining before halftime.

Commanders fourth possession: J.D. McKissic’s 33-yard puts Washington in the red zone. Carson Wentz connects with Jahan Dotson for a 10-yard touchdown. Washington leads 7-6.

Cowboys fourth possession: Dallas gains just one yard and punts.

Commanders third possession: Starts at WAS 25. Drive gets into Dallas territory but an intentional grounding penalty sets the offense back. Commanders forced to punt.

Cowboys third possession resumes: Brent Maher kicks a 45-yard field goal on the opening play of the quarter, pushing Cowboys lead to 6-0.

First quarter highlights

Cowboys third possession: Starts at DAL 13 and quickly moves upfield with Rush completions to CeeDee Lamb of 23, 16, 17 yards. Cowboys move ball to WASH 25. Fourth down as time expires in the quarter.

Commanders second possession: Washington loses five yards on its three plays. Punt ball back to Dallas.

Cowboys second possession: Starts at Cowboys 10. Drive goes just 1 yard before Cowboys punt.

Commanders first possession: Commanders pick up 13 yards on seven plays before punting ball away to Cowboys. Dallas takes over at the Dallas 10 with 7:01 left int he quarter.

Cowboys first possession: Cooper Rush’s 31-yard pass to Ezekiel Elliott highlights a opening-game 40-yard drive that ends with Brent Maher’s 53-yard field goal. Cowboys lead 3-0

Commanders win the toss and elect to defer. The Cowboys will receive.
