The confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett began Monday on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., where Barrett appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee amid a coronavirus pandemic that has left more than 210,000 Americans dead. While Republicans spent their opening statements bracing for possible attacks on Barrett’s religion, Democrats largely focused on the potential of a Barrett confirmation resulting in the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, which comes before the high court next month.
