Lions sign Winn, release Morrell

The Associated Press

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) -- The Detroit Lions have signed running back George Winn and released guard D.J. Morrell.

The team announced the moves Wednesday.

Winn rushed for 1,334 yards in 2012, his final college season at Cincinnati. He has never played in an NFL game, but he spent time on practice squads for Oakland, Pittsburgh and Dallas last season.

The 23-year-old Winn is from Southfield, Michigan.
